Fico EQ 5s jump after CFA reason code dropped - SLs are CFAs

So today I did a fresh 3B pull from EQ and noticed all of my EQ5 scores (mortgage, auto, BCE) had a nice jump! Not too sure why, as it looks like nothing aged off, but I also noted the CFA reason code that previously listed on all my EQ5 scores is now gone! I will comb through the report to be certain, but here are the chages:

EQ5: 640 > 662 (+22)

EQ5 Auto: 654 > 673 (+19)

EQ5 BCE: 655 > 674 (+19)

it also looks like all my EQ9 scores went down and EQ8 scores ticked up minimally.

I did have 1 CA age off, but I know that simply cannot be the culprit because I have a 2nd CA with the exact same CA still reporting not due to age off for 14 more months.

Aging factors:

AAoA: 8y 7m

AoOA: 15y 7m

AoYRA: 9m

Last late: 3y 3m

Ah, I did just have an idea. I did have 4 closed/positive SLs age off this month and I had a previous theory that SLs could be CFAs. This is a bit depressing due to the fact I just finished SL rehab with them and while the defaulted SLs are still reporting, there are none reporting from the OC, which they will report again in Jan when they are reopened and backdated. We will know for certain if the code returns next month accompanied by a score drop in my EQ5s.

I think my 9s when down due to aging drop due to my SLs aging off. I will have to double check AAoA and AoOA last month to this month.

So CFAs seem to have a big affect on EQ5 scores, from what I can see. 20pt difference in all of them.

Re: Fico EQ 5 jump / CFA reason code dropped

Yeah, it sounds like your SLs were coded as CFAs.  Good to know.  If that negative reason code went away it has to be due to CFA(s) no longer being present on your report, so that likes you be pretty certain of the account(s) that were causing the code.  It's also good that you're able to quantify the impact of CFAs on those scores, as many times we just hear people say that they "hurt your scores" but rarely does that statement come with quantification.

Interestingly, my EQ CR from annual credit report shows

AAoA: 11/20 6y 4m

            12/20 5y 5m

AoOA: 11/20 15y 6m

Would the exclusion of those [CFA] accounts result in the AAoA drop of ~1 year?

Re: Fico EQ 5 jump / CFA reason code dropped

For extra DPs for those with SLs:

US Dept of Ed (defaulted Fed Loans)

Fed Loan

ECMC

NMSLGC (defaulted NMEAF/NMSL loans)

Those are additional SLs reporting that did not cause the CFA negative reason code.

It was a state based FFEL Fed Loan servicer that was the culprit: NMSL (or NMEAF).

This also means Self Lender is not a CFA, for any of those that followed where we thought it could be that TL.

SO also had his NMSL/NMEAF SLs age out on EQ, so I will cross reference these DPs when I do his 3B pull in 1 week to see if results were the same/similar.

I will have to do the math, but most likely. They were some of my oldest accounts, but obviously not the oldest, being 2 CCs from 2005 and 2008 that were given extended life due to updates

Re: Fico EQ 5 jump / CFA reason code dropped

One last note:

This score change is on a dirty score card - a PR scorecard due to 3 x CAs still reporting and they will still be reporting once these NMEAF/NMSL TLs are placed back onto my CRs, so I will not have those DPs regarding dirty non-PR scorecard score changes.

So, the scoring penalty may be more or less severe for a clean scorecard, I cannot say with certainty, and I can only guess it would be more severe since dirty scorecards tend to be less affected by changes, but I could be totally wrong on this. Who knows, the CFA scoring penalty may be the same regardless of scorecard. We just don't have enough DPs on CFAs and changes because it takes so long for them to age off to finally determine the culprit. When we get more DPs from others, we will know more.

Even when I do the 3B pull on SO's credit, EQ is his only dirty scorecard (PR scorecard due to CA), so I am guessing the penalty will be the same/similar to mine.

EX and TU are dirty scorecards, but not PR scorecard for SO. For some reason NMEAF/NMSL was not reporting the derog TLs on EQ (for me or SO) while they are reporting on EX/TU (lucky, I guess), so I will not be able to find out those DPs for a loooooong time.

Only the positive/closed NMEAF/NMSL TLs were still reporting to EQ, which just aged off this month for both of us, as I mentioned in an earlier response.

I will report SO's changes for comparison as well the changes (if they can be properly deduced) once these TLs are all placed back on in Jan. I guess at a minimum, I will see if the age of them being added back on, and their now being positive TLs, outweighs the CFA scoring penalty.

Re: Fico EQ 5 jump / CFA reason code dropped

@LaHossBoss Wait a minute, before and after reason codes please. Just because it disappeared doesn’t mean it’s gone, could’ve moved down.

-Community’s scoring wisdom: Scoring Primer.
-New: MORTGAGE SECTION.
-Negative Reason Codes: CassieCard’s Score Factors.
-Calculate metrics with ccquest’s Workbook.

Clean/Thick/Mature/No New Revolver - 8,9; Clean/Thick/Mature/No New Account - 5/4/2.
Correct Ag.Util. under 5% all times. (Oldest/avg varies. Estimates above.)
Real world mortgage maxes are: EQ5-818, TU4-839, EX2-844.

@Birdman7 only major change was 1 CA was removed (not a CFA) and 3 CAs still remain - still a PR scorecard - and 4 positive/closed SLs aged off.

AoORA and AoOA has not changed only AAoA changed (went down 1 yr).

Re: Fico EQ 5 jump / CFA reason code dropped

Yeah I tagged you in another thread regarding SL’s maybe being CFA’s. Well it does suspiciously look like it has disappeared. Let’s hope so especially since you did not take any inquiries to displace it, right?
