Inactive card costs me 21 points

I thought you were supposed to take cards out of sock drawer periodically and use for small transaction. I did and it cost me 21 points. Another card I did same with resulted in no change. Don't understand.

Re: Inactive card costs me 21 points

SW will alert you if you don't use a card for a while, and will provide your new EQ FICO at that time. When you get a new FICO it's easy to assume that because a card became active, then the loss is 100% tied to that activity. It's not necessarily so. FICO generally removes cards from util after 12 months of non-reporting but SW's settings is set for non-use (as opposed to non-reporting). The score change you received is a net score change and there could be other things tied into that drop. For example, if you're recently updated CC that was a focus on the alert had an increase in util, then it could have easily have dropped your FICO by that much if utilization increased a fair amount.

Re: Inactive card costs me 21 points

thanks for the input. as I said, I use most cards only to keep them active, charges are usually in the $5-$10 range and paid off immediately. maybe I should stop using them altogether, I don't need them. Just put them away and forget them?
