The big drops were because my file is relatively thin. About 8 months after that I was around 820 on all three. Then I added an auto loan (1 INQ and 1 new installment TL) which didn't drop me at all with EQ or EX and only 10 points at TU. It's been about 6 months since then and I'm at 825 / 832 / 836. I've been hoping to see the 840s again when those two revolvers hit 2 years in April 2017 but I may be buying a house soon so who knows what will happen then.

Anyway, best of luck on the hunt for 840+.

Ubuntu,

When you had the 850, 848 and 849 scores what was your AAoA and age of oldest account?

Are these FICO scores?

Thanks.

Yes, those were all FICO 8 scores directly from myFICO. My oldest accounts were 22 years and my AAoA was 11 years.

It sounds like you're scores are moving up very nicely but if you just added two tradelines you likely won't see 840+ for quite a while. Others may have different experiences but new tradelines generally prevent you from getting into the 840s until they've aged to the point where they're no longer considered "new" which is generally around two years old. Plus they lower your AAoA which makes reaching the highest scores a bit more difficult. The inquires that will drop soon should get you a bump but the're usually only worth a point or two depending on how thick your file is.

I can guarantee that 840's are possible, and even 850, with trade lines less than two years old - it all depends on the file and, likely, AAoA. I have three new credit cards from last year and a car loan from 12/14 and none of them kept me out of the 840's (or 830's depending on the number of inquiries with a particular CRA). As soon as the inquiries aged to one year the FICO8 scores all maxed out, still showing three credit cards and one auto loan less than 24 months old.

That is completely correct. I had an 850 on Equifax with 5 accounts less than 6 months old. I haven't, however, been able to get past 849 on Transunion. So, I am guessing, that for my profile, it is not possible to get to 850 on Transunion with accounts less than 1 year old. I will find out in a couple of months.

That's very interesting. The primary purpose of credit scores are for lenders to guage a borrower's risk level.

I can't fathom how they could assign the same level of risk to two people, one with no accounts less than two years old, and one with 5 accounts less than 6 months old. I understand that a long history, thick file, high AAoA, and perfect payment record are all clear signs of a low risk but you'd think they would leave a little more room between those two hypothetical people. The statistics must say otherwise though. Thanks for the info.

I certainly can't explain the rationale behind the scoring, I can just state what I know to be true. Why it works the way it does is beyond me. Still, it might have to do with the fact that - even with the new accounts all showing - the AAoA was still quite high. Perhaps that is what would differentiate between "new accounts, but still okay" and "nope, those accounts are too new". Smiley Happy

That's kind of typical if you have a fixed report... namely nothing crossing thresholds and nothing noteworthy happening.  I've had a similarly flatlined set of credit scores for the past 2 years now unless I rack up inquiries, cross an AAOA boundary, or take a new negative (sigh) or let a sloppy pattern of revolving utilization report which can't easily happen with my current lifestyle unless I force it.  Did have some changes to my scores when I was playing with installment utilization but the mortgage brought an end to that party.

The boundaries for AAOA and what not get wider the prettier your file, and with an 800 across several bureaus your file is probably reasonably developed already.

I suspect category buffers exist that may stabilize score. In other words a category may be allocated X points toward Fico score but the attributes in the category may total (X+5) points. So a 5 point buffer for that category in this example. Undoubetedly factors within a scoring category can reach saturation (such as inquiries). That leads to score stabilization on the low score end for that factor. Clearly B/L ratio individually or in aggregate is stabilized when a mortgage is in play. This also will dampen score fluctuations.

Fico 08 has multiple scorecards with upper and lower boundries. I don't know your profile details but it looks your score could be up against a scorecard ceiling or limited to a lower value due to saturation of a factor that negatively impacts score.

About 1.5 months ago I acquired 5 hp's over a 2 week period, and I thought the score would drop....they did show on cr's but scores did not drop. That's good, but my scores have been static so long I wonder if my goal of 850's across all 3 are even realistic. I plan to stay in the garden for a year to find out, but the highest my Fico 08 score has ever been at any of the 3 CB's is 825.

Re: Our Forums' FICO High Achievers: Who has at least one FICO Score of 760 or above?

Well I guess I'm a high achiever now. When I started on this forum my scores were in the 650's range and now well... 800+ This forum has been insanely helpful for me and I'm super grateful. Now the slow climbe from the 810's/820's to 850 is well underway but BOY is it slow. I wish I knew how to accelerate it. Any ideas?

Re: Our Forums' FICO High Achievers: Who has at least one FICO Score of 760 or above?

Congratulations, ITP.

Don't know your overall situation, but what works for me is when your cards are all paid off, use only one for necessary purchases and pay it off when the bill comes in.  I do have a mortgage, but I've never been late for any bill.  I think the last idea is a winner in trying to elevate your scores.  It takes about a month for Fico scores to elevate after you've done all 'the right things.'

I'll be checking my Fico scores in November to see what the changes may be.  One drawback with myfico is, if you're in the market for a large purchase (house, car) and start to shop around, your scores will be 'dinged' if dealers have to check your credit.   That sucks, otherwise how can you shop around for the best deal?  One way to avoid that is to tell dealers not to do a 'hard pull' on your credit.  Sometimes that works.

Anyway, good luck in reaching your goal
