Hi Sarge.  I agree in what you say above that someone is being very responsible if they don't use credit at all and pay cash for everything, but that doesn't mean they're being responsible with credit.  If one doesn't use credit, they can't be responsible with it and therefore can't obtain/possess/maintain a credit score over a length of time.

My scores started to Crest above 760 last summer. With the final baddie dropping this past December, I'm at 812, 814 & 829 (EQ, EX &TU).

Now I just have to stay responsible and keep the INQs at bay.

2023 Goal: save 3 months' net income

Starting FICO8: 666 (give or take a FICO)

True...But if the credit score is suppose to be a measure of how credit worthy an individual is, the lack of credit history prevents the credit score from doing so. The credit score was created to assign a numerical score to predict the liklihood of the individual to default or become seriously delinquent. It is a fairly good indicator of that risk, if the individual has a good bit of credit history. It cannot however be a very good predictor if the individual has gone an extensive length of time without seeking credit. That is the point I was attempting to make, having a high score is definate indicator of responsible credit behavior, as nobody can get 800+ scores being irresponsible with their credit. Having a low score however could be the result of irresposible credit behavior. It could also mean the individual just has not sought any credit for an extensive length of time. If you do not use any credit at all for 10 years, your credit report will be pretty much blank. That is a very good position to be in, but if you ever need to borrow money they have very little data to base a lending decision on.

In order to have a low credit score (say under 660) a profile must have some issues with credit management. Even those new to credit should have Fico 8 scores starting around 700 if accounts have been maintained in good standing with moderate to low utilization

When my DD got her 1st two credit cards she had no credit history except 100% on time rent and utility payments. She had no Fico scores - only an L2C score.

After 6 months she got her 1st Fico 8 scores through her Discover card and Wells Fargo card accounts. She only pays statement balances and uses both cards almost every month. Aggregate utilization was typically in the 10% to 25% range. Her starting scores were in the 710 to 720 range. Now two years later (still just the 2 accounts) her scores are 760 to 780.

I'm at 850 for Transunion and Experian on multiple sites, but my only Equifax ficos are on a different scoring of 895 and 893. Evidently I don't own a credit card that reports Equifax on Fico 8?

That's pretty common actually, as EQ FICO 8 is the toughest of the 3 to come by for free and/or through a CCC.  I too can't get my EQ FICO 8, although Citi does give FICO BCE 8, which it sounds like you may be getting since that's on a scale up to 900.  Your best bet is to go with a $1 trial at CCT if you don't have another source for your Classic 8 from EQ if it's a score you really want to know.

BBS...You can get a free monthly equifax fico 08 by opening a checking or savings account at Langley FCU. If you do not have military service you will have to make a 5 dollar donation to an approved charity to qualify for membership. It will take a couple of months to start reporting the equifax, but it comes like clockwork afterward. I actually deposted 50 in savings and 50 in checking, but I think much less was required. It will result in a hard pull to become a member. I only joined for the free Equifax fico 08...so now I get all 3 somewhere for free.

@Turbobuick

895 is the highest EQ industry option score I have seen reported (likely Bankcard Fico 8 version). It would be interesting to get details on your profile: AoYA, AAoA, AoOA, total # cards open & closed, total # installment accounts open & closed, aggregate loan B/L, aggregate revolving UT%, highest individual card UT% and # cards with balances.

Do you practice AZEO for revolving credit cards?

The only free EQ Fico 8 score I get is the BCE version through Citi. My monthly BCE has varied between 874 and 892 due to changes in # cards reporting balances. In all cases my Classic EQ Fico 8 (purchased) remained at 850. Given enhanced scores in the 890s, your Classic EQ Fico 8 is almost certainly at 850.
