SHOULD I TRY TO GET BAD DEBT TAKEN OFF MY CREDIT?

My longest debt is only 7 years old.  Unfortunately, my oldest debts are paid but had been in collections for over a year before they were paid.  Is it better to try to get them removed or keep them on? In one sense, I am thinking that it hurts my credit because the debt had been unpaid and in collections for a long period of time and in another sense, I am looking at it as these are my oldest debts so if I get them taken off it might hurt me more because it will shorten my credit age.  Can someone help?

Are these COs or CAs? If COs, how old are they in relation to your AAoA?

Most of them are CO's and lists Paid.  My AAoA is about 3 years.  My CO's are older approx. 5-7 years old.  I have one that is less though at 3 years.

I'd certainly aim for the newer ones via GW letters and see where it goes from there. After some success, you can always reevaluate, check scores, and see if you want to pursue the rest.
