AAoA includes all credit accounts in your file: Mortgages, Auto loans, PLOCs, Home equity loans, credit cards, charge cards, etc.

Both closed and open accounts are part of the AAoA calculation.

I think it's definitely a reasonable and feasible goal for me in this case.

If I had to guess, I'd say 28-29. My reasoning is the buffer that allows you to have an 850 without being perfect in all categories. In this case if one maxed out every category except AoOA, that person could land an 850. I remember there being a thread stating that people without installment loans could achieve 850.

I don't agree with this.  AoOA is a huge factor here and not one that I believe can be overcome by "maxing out" everything else.  If that were the case, I think I could have hit an 850 a long time ago.  I believe that AoOA is a major constraint that will put a ceiling on your scoring potential, regardless of how perfect other categories may be.  Obviously, this is all speculation on both your part and my part.  Until we start seeing people chime in with data points, it seems that mid-late 30's is the best we've seen report an 850 (not young 30's or late 20's).  AoOA is one of the few factors that can't be sped up or addressed in any way to "fix" or "improve" it, where almost everything else can be tackled and remedied.  That being said, if AoOA is indeed an absolute constraint to score improvement, there's nothing that can be done at all about it other than wait, thus raising the age it would take someone to be to achieve a perfect score.

What would you put the exact cutoff age at? I'd be interested in trying this out and see if I can get 850 before a certain age.

Tough to say.  I personally believe AoOA needs to be 15+ years.  Some have said 10 years.  Some 12.  Some 17.  I'm going to roll with 15 until I see someone with less than 15 years AoOA report an 850 Score 8.  What that converts to in terms of age depends on when they opened that oldest account.  Whatever age that was + 15 years IMO equates to the youngest age they can achieve an 850.  Again, this thread assumes a profile that is clear of any AU accounts.

In this case I would be aiming for 33.

My guess is minimum AoOA required is in the 12 to 15 year range with AAoA minimum of 7.5 years.

Interesting, as I thought AoOA would have to be 15-17 years at least.  If it could be accomplished with a 12 year AoOA, that would mean someone in their young 30's could nab an 850 score.

To me, AoOA seems to be the biggest constraint here.

I'd like to hear from anyone that did achieve an 850 at under 40 years of age.  It would be good to know your data points, especially those related to the age of accounts factors.

I stumbled across an old thread that some may find of interest. It discussed 850 scores with inquiries and AoYA under 12 months.

Re: Youngest age where 850 has been achieved?

I saw in that thread that JLK93 reported an 850 score with his AoYA being less than 12 months old.

If JLK93 is around, it would be cool to hear the other data points surrounding his profile, specifically the age of accounts factors.  I don't believe that he shared them in the linked thread above.

Re: Youngest age where 850 has been achieved?

Here is some data from JLK93 from 3 months before the above thread link. It mentions his youngest account reaching one year and getting a nice Fico 8 score boost. The new HPs he mentions in the link must not be related to new accounts (perhaps the HPs were from CLI requests and joining some credit unions).

HPs can still be counted after the related account hits the full 12 months - I just had that happen.

I opened an auto loan last summer on 7/23. There was one HP each on EQ and EX, and they only stopped counting yesterday, but the account already "counted" as 12 months old on the 1st of the month. (CRA math!)

I've got a very quiet file right now, so the effects of both were fairly easy to see. (Not on the maxed FICO 8 scores, of course, but on the other models.)

AoYA hitting 12 months had a very minor effect on scores, from zero to mostly single-digit bumps.  I saw slightly bigger jumps on TU (already with no scorable HPs) than on EQ/EX.

Much the same when those two HPs fell out of scoring yesterday - very small bumps. Both effects were only barely above the normal background noise level just from card reporting dates. (Although it did result in my first FICO9 850, so... yay?)

Raw numbers below for stats purposes.

6/6 - AoYA 11 months, 1 HP on EQ/EX, 0 HP on TU

7/4 - AoYA 12 months, 1 HP on EQ/EX, 0 HP on TU

7/24 - AoYA 12 months, 0 (scorable) HP across the board.

(You'll probably need to scroll sideways, sorry.)

Very interesting thread, BBS. I was hoping to find some examples here to use as a gauge for what I can expect over the next couple years, but it looks like that search continues...

Hopefully a few people will come through with some real world data points for you!
