I am above NFCU's 80k max secured limit? I didn't think they allowed that.

I have read on this forum numerous times that Navy Federal has a maximum unsecured credit limit over all personal cards of 80k. However, tonight I apped for the Flagship Rewards and was approved for 30k. Shortly after approval I requsted a CLI on my More Rewards from $20,100 to $25,000 which was immediatelty approved. Those on top of my GoRewards with a 28k limit put me at $83,000 total.

Do you think NFCU has bumped up their maximum unsecured limit over all cards? Or do you think I "tricked" the system by applying for a CLI so soon after my approval for the Flagship that they will eventually try to correct their mistake? I seldom touch my GoRewards so if they wanted to lower that limit it would not break my heart. Thoughts? Has anyone heard of this happening before?

(Data Points: 810 Transunion Score, deep and longstanding relationship w/ Navy that includes 15+ years, flagship checking, savings, car loan (almost paid off), and a certificate maturing August 2023. Income 98k)

Yes it has been reported before, @KillingThemGingerly. Unfortunately you probably won't be able to keep it. When they review the increases, they will most likely manually adjust you back to $80K by modifying limits. Sorry! Smiley Frustrated

I believe there's a DP of someone here momentarily going over the $80k cap, but Navy realized it and lowered their limit back down to stay within the cap. So, I expect one of your cards to get CLD'd back down.

How do they decide which card to CLD I wonder?

Did they say how NFCU decided which card to do a CLD to?

I'm trying to search for the thread, but I can't seem to find it. 😕

I think there was more than one thread @KillingThemGingerly  and @OmarGB9

>Here<  is one of them.

@KillingThemGingerly , I would suggest calling NFCU and tell them how you want to divide your limits before they make changes.

I may have found it. Based on this thread, you can probably expect a call from Navy asking you how you want to proceed to get you back under the 80k cap.

Thanks for this! I'll just wait for their call. Again out of the cards I have from them the GoRewards is the one I'd go with reducing but I'll just wait and see considering today is thanksgiving. I am surprised they don't have some internal fail safe to prevent this from happening to begin with.
