Some Suggestions When Posting

I have often observed a poster holding back some very important piece of information. This isn't an accusation or denunciation. It's simply an observation.

The catch-22 is that if one is coming here to ask questions, then one may not know what is or is not an important piece of information.

Here are some questions to consider when posting, particularly if one is posting either for the first time or very early on in the credit learning process.

Are you planning a big purchase, like a car or a home, either short term or long term?

Are you getting married or divorced?

Have you been sued? Served with a summons and complaint? Threatened with a summons and complaint? Called to appear at a mitigation or arbitration hearing?

Be sure to state your goals. They can specific or general, short or long term, tangible or intangible. However, as your goals are more general, you'll need to include more details.

For example:

"I want to improve my credit, and I'm not sure what to do. I have 2 CCs, 3 unpaid collections, and an ontime car loan. I hope to buy a home in the next 2 years."

I'll probably come up with others later. I don't want this to turn into a what if of every possible scenario, just the big picture stuff to be sure to include when posting.

Refrain from threadjacking. This is the practice of posting something not within the scope of the subject and the range of the discussion.

Discussions do have a habit of evolving and unfolding perhaps not always the way the OP intended, and so long as one is contributing to the letter and spirit of the discussion, you're good. Try to keep the OP's posts in mind when posting. An OP might not fully convey their questions or comments in the first post. I like to think of the OP as owning the thread, and I hope to try and remain on the topic the OP raised.

If you have to preface your comments with the words or thought, "This may be off topic", it would probably be better to start a new thread. Don't be afraid to start a new thread. Attitude and demeanor here is generally very easy going.
