Who has the power.........................

Who has the power to remove an item from your repot?

Also, even thought the collection is accurate can the creditor or the bureau agree to remove it permanently? What can be done to have it removed?

Thanks

Re: Who has the power.........................

That's a really short question with a really long answer. Your answer, however, is here. Just read through the forums. The short version is yes, but there are a lot of variables and it's never guaranteed. And actually I should add that this forum is a bit limited to certain aspects of your question so just be aware it's not really a "credit repair" forum, technically. But I think you'll find it is quite informative and the processes to accomplish your goal can be found here. Sorry if that sounds vague.

Re: Who has the power.........................

To answer your question, the following definitely can remove an account from your report:

     1. The original creditor (OC)
     2. The collection agency (CA)
     3. A credit reporting agency (CRA)

Of course, they all involve disputing each or sometimes all of the above.  The best way is by mail.  Anytime you send letters, always send certified with a return receipt requested.  This way, you have proof should you need it in the future.  Although you can dispute a valid and accurately reported account, it's not really recommended for different reasons.  For valid accounts, you can always ask for a PFD (pay for delete).  You can sometimes even get a PFD for settling the account for less than you owe.

An excellent example of a PFD letter, by Tuscani, can be found here:  http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=generalcredit&message.id=2659&query.id=8774...

Re: Who has the power.........................

If the account is yours, but reported inaccurately, you can dispute it as inaccurate. Then becomes incumbent on the CA or OC to report the info correctly. If they don't respond and confirm it or update it accordingly, then the CRA is supposed to delete it.

CRA cannot do anything to negotiate away an adverse TL, but a CA or OC can. You'll see reference to PFD throughout this forum. However, if it's a Paid Collection, then you have no bargaining power. If it's an Unpaid Collection, then you have a chip in the game.
