free finance downloads

Is there any free finance program downloads that are worth anything and one that you don't have to sign up for other crap in order to get it? I am worried about giving personal info about myself on the net to one party in oder to get a free download from another party (how is one supposed to know if it is not the same people, then they have all your info they need because you just provided it to them). Thanks.

Re: free finance downloads

Do you have MS Office on you computer? They have several templates you can download for free (w/o registering for anything) that help in budgeting, financial planning, etc.

Another option is your bank. Some banks offer free online access that also have tools for budgeting, etc.

Or see if sites like Quicken, MS Money, etc. have free trials or downloads.

I don't know what they have for Office 2000, but it's worth a shot. Basically it is a template you can download from MS and when opened, a new Excel, Word, etc. doc will appear based on the design of that template.

Check out the different calculators.  I really like the accelerated debt payoff calculator.  Easy way to see how long before you are out of the hole.

Great reference!

Also the excellent Mortgage Professor's website has numerous Excel templates for doing various financial calculations.  However the mathematics isn't really all that complicated, see the following Wikipedia articles and after studying the equations you should be able to roll your own as I do.

Amortization Schedule

Compound Interest

The article on Amortization Schedule notes that because different banks handle rounding of fractional cents in various ways there may be small differences in the pennies.  I'm sufficiently compulsive about such details that I fiddled around with rounding algorithms in Excel until I got exact agreement; before I reverse-engineered their rounding algorithm I think the discrepancy in principal balance between my spreadsheet and the monthly statements was around seven cents.
