I was looking for a credit card which offered a monthly FICO credit score. I had my heart set on the Discover It card that I had been eye balling ever since I chose the Chase Freedom over the Discover It card back in Jan/2014. It hadn't helped either that I have been getting pre-approved offers in the mail ever since I was in high school. Though members quickly opened my eyes up to other possiblitlies. I originally stated that I didn't want a Barclay card because they targeted mostly traverers with hotel and airline points. Though then I was recommended the Barclay Sallie Mae which I had not orginally found when doing research beforehand. After reading more of the rewards, I quickly realized that this was the card for me. The year-around 5% on gas and groceries had me from the get go. What more could I need? That's typically all this college student spends his money on. Fuel, food and liquior. Wait is liquior included in the grocery catagory? All kidding aside, the $250 on individual catagories cap will never be reached. Atleast not for the time being.

I believe the Barclay Sallie Mae Platnium will quickly take presence over the Chase Freedom. Though I still intend to keep the Chase Freedom with me if I can take avantage of it during a rotating catagory period. I will also use the Chase Freedom when I'm not using the Barclay Sallie Mae Platnium on gas, groceies or books because I prefer to exchange the points for cash to transfer into the Chase Checking Account. Though both have 1% on all other purchases. This is also the first Mastercard I have owned, so I'm unsure of how often I will run into a merchant which won't accept it. I have always used Visa, so I will definitly keep a Visa around when carrying the Mastercard.

I'm decideing weather I should push my luck and ask for Barclay Sallie Mae WMC instead in the morning. I thought I would ask for a higher APR and lower CL in exchange for the WMC. I don't think the Barclay Sallie Mae WMC's perks would be much more worth it. Though in the long-term would I have a higher CL over the Barclay Sallie Mae Platnium? Any openions or suggestions on this?

If this is not the correct route to go, should I atleast call to get a CLI? I need to call tomorrow anyway because when I went to the next step after approval Barclay's website read, "We apologize for the inconvience, but our website is experencing technical issues." 'Hence' the reason my APR is TBD. I couldn't create a log-in because of this.

Do you think if I call a backdoor number that the credit analyist could help me with the log-in problem also?

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Congrats on the approval. Call the back door number, there's nothing you can hurt. If you search in here for Barclay recon you can see what others have done. Smiley Happy

Re: Barclay Sallie Mae Platinum

Update: APR: 22.99%

I called the backdoor credit analyist number listed here on myFICO. I asked what the APR was and became suprised it was that high. I thought about asking for a upgrade to  WMC before calling and realized that the extra features would not be benifical. I also thought about asking for a higher CL, but I 'wussed out.' I think the $2,000 CL is low and should have atleast matched the Chase Freedom CL of $3,000. Oh well, I will build a reputation with them for 6 months and then give them a call back for a CLI. Anyone else agree?

I 'wussed out.' If I call back will it be a different credit analyist? If I did it would be for a CLI or a APR deduction. Which one should I go for?

Re: Barclay Sallie Mae Platinum

Call back about the CLI now. Call about the APR when your 0% intro period is over.

Re: Barclay Sallie Mae Platinum

Understood, what would be a good CLI I should ask for? I would be happy with atleast $3,000, however I would prefer $6,000. Or should I just not ask for a preticular amount at all?
