Yesterday, i was kind of bored at home and started to check all my credit accounts online and once i logged onto my citi account and checked everything was alright and i started exploring all the options my Citi card has on the online profile and then i ran into the "Credit Line Increase" option so i felt so tempted on summtting a request for an increase (I opened this account last year so it's about a year old) and i gotta confess i couldn't resist this desire so i filled out the form thinking that Citi can either approve my request with a SP or HP. when i saw this message: By submitting this request you're authorizing Citibank to check your credit history I tried to stop and cancel this but i couldn't so I requested $1,500 more to up my CL to $6000 and hit submit i was so nervous when i submitted the request and unfortunally the screen came back with the following:
"Your CLI request has been forwarded to the credit department and you'll recieve an e-mail in 24 hours"
I knew that meant they needed to pull a CR to approve or denied my request.
I was really hoping i was going to get a SP approval or Instant approval and i didn't really want another HP on my reports, i started to call CITI: regular customer number, Retencion Department. IT department and every single number i could find to cancel this request and avoid the HP but unfortunaly all the CSRs said once you submit a CLI request online you can't cancel it
The good news is that i received the e-mail from CITI this morning congatulating me and informing me that my request has been APPROVED for the whole amount requested ($1,500) so now my new CL is $6,000 but yeah i now have another Hard inquiry from CITI on EXP. I felt happy when a saw the appoval e-mail because i got the increase but i also felt bad because it wasn't appoved via SP and I kind of regret that i didn't request more and sort of wonder myself if the hard inquiry was worth it
I'm going to believe it was but still another hard inquiry is showing up on EXP and hopefully this won't affect my chances of getting a CLI on my AMEX blue in February
Every 6 months with them I have always had a soft pull for a CLI I ask for an amount and the system comes back with an amount they will approve me for!

Lucky you!!! Yeah i was expecting an approval from them with a SP considering the fact that this is the first request i do since i opened this account
Yes that's the same thing that happened to me but I would wait 6 months from today and ask again. I have 2 citi cards I request a CLI on have about 14k between them when I started it was 4k about 2 years ago
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Citi is very much YMMV. Some seem to get soft CLI, many of us don't. However, by calling instead of doing it online, you can usually be told if a soft offer is available, and if there isn't, you can then decide, knowing it will be a HP.
Congrats on your CLI:
You can always cancel a request prior to hitting the submit button by just closing the browser window, it is an automatic disconnect and gets canceled as an incompete app.
