Jumped on NFCU bandwagon...15K starting limit!

I have watched the Navy FCU posts for a long time.  I finally decided to join in. Yesterday I called them and they took my membership application over the phone and accepted me.  I received an alert for a TU pull while on the phone! I didn't apply for anything because my utilization is 50%.  I called them for advice and was told to go to the branch and explain that I want to transfer balances and bring credit card bills to show balances and addresses to pay the bills  I did that today and was approved for $15,000 limit.  I wanted higher but I'm very satisfied.  It is triple my highest limit.  While the officer was taking my application, I received an alert for a TU pull.  This means NFCU only pulled TU for me for both the membership and the products. I also applied and was approved for CLOC.  I only asked for $5000.  I didn't have to provide any verifications.  The officer told me everything verified through their electronic systems.  Thanks to God first and then to myFico forum! This forum has helped me turn my credit around and point me to great opportunities.  For those who are considering to apply, my TU is only 667 because of high utilization.  My derogatives are a 6-year-old collection and some late pays from 2014.

UPDATE: NFCU did pull Equifax when I applied for products.  The alert was very slow and I just noticed it.  They pulled Equifax one time for CC and CLOC.

Congrats! NFCU is awesome, and after a while you'll probably be able to grow that to $25K w/ a soft pull. They jumped my goRewards from $5K to $25K w/o a hard pull after my 3rd statement cut.

Wow you are kidding me!  That's awesome.  Did you request the increase or did they increase without you asking?  Also, did you pay in full all three months?

I'd had a Cash Rewards card for a couple years, so I don't know if that helped, but I've heard that they'll do it on a first account, too. There's a big, huge NFCU CLI thread if you're bored sometime Smiley Happy I don't think I PIF'd... it has a low rate (9.74) so I let it ride for a month to pay off a bigger bill w/ higher interest. I did request the increase - I had seen they SP'd me for an account review, so I thought my chances would be good. 25K is the most they do w/o sending a bunch of docs, so I just clicked the  button that said "maximum amount" for how much I wanted, and it jumped me right to 25K.

Good luck, and don't be disheartened if they don't bite the first time. NFCU is one that LOVES to see a good relationship history. If you treat them well, they will treat you very well in return!

Let us know what happens!

Yea that sucks that they don't accept Navy League apps by phone.  Try your luck anyway and see what happens.  You might get a sympathetic agent who will process via phone. Don't say something like, "I know you don't accept via phone but I'm hoping for an exception".  Instead say, "I am joining by way of the Navy League but the membership wizard on your site is not directing me correctly.  Will you please process this for me?"
