AMEX RECON

What's the best AMEX recon number to call. I was denied for the BCP ther other day and I called up and the guy gave me the reasons I was declined but didn't offer to check it out or anything and it was one of the numbers from the Backdoor Numbers sticky. He sounded like he was just reading it off. I have the PRG and I know the revolvers are harder to get but from the info on my signatures and a 4% util I should have no problem with BCP? They said it was too many inquiries and blah blah blah

EDIT: There are also no baddies on CR

Re: AMEX RECON

I don't think AMEX recons over the phone, if you recon with them you will have to fax everything into them and wait for a decision.  From what I remember there is no ability to talk to someone on the phone.

How many INQ and which report?  Presumably EX?

From your signature and this info above, my guess would be you would normally be in a pretty good position.  But those INQ might be killing you (read the post about the 82 INQ???) Smiley Surprised  Try the number in the post above, or try the same number you called but at a different time of day.  You'll likely get a different analyst, one more receptive to your request.  And to get them "off script" just ask them pointed questions -- what was the reason, can you make an exception, can you give me pointers for improvement, I love AMEX...that sort of thing!

Re: AMEX RECON

Did you get the decline letter? Wait until it's in your hands then write a letter to the address on that letter and offer good counterpoints to each of their points. Be specific about it. List all of your inquiries with dates and the result of the pulls, add a reason for the application or card. Explain why you are a good customer, why you want the card and expected usage. Won't hurt to mention that the new card will replace another bank's card bla bla bla. Sell yourself getting the card. List your current credit score and from what bureau, your current income (needs to match application info) and that you have no debt (or list what you have and be clear about payoffs). If you need pointers Google "reconsideration letters credit card". Some good stuff out there.

I was declined for a card with them last fall and tried calling, no luck. Seems like I hit a stone wall. I wrote a nice but firm letter and a few weeks later got the card in the mail. It's worth the time as a good letter goes farther than a call. Once you mail it don't try calling. Just let it do it's job.

Re: AMEX RECON

Thanks for all your help. I really love this forum <3

I will try calling and then writing a letter. Writing a letter? I sound like an old person lol

I only have 12 INQ not even close to 82 lol....most are from me getting a new car in January. This is my last card attempt for awhile so I am trying my best to make it work.

EDIT: That is the number I called before. I want to try to get someone in the States. No offense to overseas; I just feel like the people in the US have more ability to think on their own.

800-297-6197

The number above is for their Executive Offices...should not be an off-shore location at all.  If it is, that's confusing.

Try this:

AmEx:  800-230-1284 (Account Services - handles accounts with issues)

But I'd sure try that EO number again, and if necessary ask to be transferred to the executive offices.
