Remember, regardless of what it starts out at, many banks will either lower it upon request if you meet some qualifications or some will reduce iton their own.
Everyone should ask, even if you PIF each month.
+1. I was able to lower by BoA 4% and Discover 2%. Chase was a no-go.
OP, about APR, Cap1 pre-qual site now is giving me 17.9% again, I guess that is because they see the HP and new account from them. I bet they will give me a better APR in a few months.
Maybe it is me, but it seems like CapOne will only lower it for a few months. I call them every few months to lower it again. I think they do that as part of thier overall plan to get more interest. You forget that the APR was only a temporary thing and then they get more in interest when it is over. I think you have to call the EO to do a permanent reduction.
I wish I could get Discover to budge. They started me at 500.00 limit at 22.9 three years ago. I get cli's (5k limit now) but no APR reductions. I have obtained various cards since then with APR's ranging from 12.9 to 16.9, even got approved for 5K @ 13.9 for the Freedom. The best Discover gave me was another year @0%. I am not crying about that, I just wonder what it takes to get off that 22.9. Heck Cap One even dropped 4 points on a card I have sock drawered.
