So....
Went online this morning to pay all my bills and see that all 4 crds had account restricted in red lettering....and to call. I call in and the rep says that i will be transfered to the executive escalation team,
The rep gets on and tells me that all 4 cards have been closed because of "past, present, or pending" legal action".....I told the rep I had no idea what she was talking about...yes I had civil actions years ago durring my divorce (have spoken about that) but my credit is perfect....nothing bad at all...pay all my accouts in full every month.
So mad and upset right now....if anyone has gone through this can they please let me know what the hell is happening??? If you want to pm me thats fine...but I am trying to gain clarity here and I am utterrly distraught.
Ps. My cap one checking acccount is still open...and the rep told me that the cards would reflect closed by consumer on my cr.....
I will be in meetings most of the day...but will be checking this thread so, any advice or information would be most appreciated....
Thanks so so much guys....just reall sad now.
Gregg
Sorry to hear about the closures. Did they give you any specifics on what legal actions that they are talking about? I think you need to contact the EO and get them to give you detailed information. Your past divorce should have no bearing on the cards.

+1. That makes absolutely no sense. Definitely contact EO. If you don't already have a pin to call, email them and they will call you back. That's just horrible OP. Never seen this from Cap One.

I've never heard of anything like this from Capital One, and I'm as curious as everyone else as to what the problem is.
The only thing I can think of is if somehow your social security number got erroneously reported as 'deceased'. It happened to my father a few years ago, and he found out from his bank. Supposedly it's easier to correct now than it once was, but it's a hassle nonetheless.
Please let us know once you reach somebody who can/will provide you with more details!
OP.... First I want to say I'm so sorry this happened to you, that really stinks. This literally could happen to any one of us here at anytime. I know this sucks for you.
Second.....
I'm not saying this to scare you or upset you further, but you did ask for a little possible insight into this.
Before my BK a few years back, I had some of my CC shut down for the exact same reason given.... Past, present, or pending legal action. In my case, it was my tax lien, and a judgement that I knew nothing about because the papers were sent to my old address.
ask yourself these questions:
Could I be sued by anyone for anything right now? Ex-wife? More child support? Anything new pop up on reports that might warrant a judgement? A past medical issue? Taxes ok? Could anyone be suing you for any reason at all?
Your best course of action is to contact the EO pronto (when you can, I know you're at work), and demand an explanation..... The real one. They know damn well why they closed your accounts and I'd push it too. Also, check
Your reports to make sure nothing popped up.
I'll be following this thread , and hope you get some answers. I'm truly sorry this happened to you.
I would definitely listen to Pizza's advice. hopefully you can get this situation fixed.
So sorry this is happening to you.. I believe I have read one or two other things in the past about Cap1 and this, wish I could recall the thread, but it was on MyFico forum somewhere.. Please keep us informed and best of luck through the EO.

On my phone. Stepped out for a sec. Had old judgements and tax lean after my divirce...but they are all past statute and not on cb anymore. You can see my Ficos in my signature. No baddies..perfect pay history. No legal action pending. Checked all County clerk offices. What could have precipitated this? Paid off all cards in full every month . Just so lost
Just because a judgment isnt reportable anymore doesnt mean that it isnt active and that they wont levy property and bank accounts to collect at some time in the future. A judgment can be renewed pretty much forever in all states as long as it remains unpaid. I would check with your banking end and see if they have levied the bank account.
