So I applied for Citi Diamond Preferred around November 10th, application stayed pending for 5 days before I got a call from their Analyst asking for my Annual Income. I mentioned the same income I put on the application. Before I could say anything further, she said I can't approve you at this time, please try again in future.
Citi pulled EX (692) and EQ (657) for me, EX had 3 inqs and EQ had 0.
Somewhere on forums I came across Citi's Executive Review Department's mailing address, after much debate I wrote a letter to them explaining my situation, attached recent paystubs and specifically mentioned that I don't want another pull for this recon...
To my surprise after almost 40 days, I just got an emailing from Citi today stating my application has been approved Yay!!!!! The crappy part is the CL, only 500$. I didnt even get that limit when I was a student Lol.
How's Citi with CLIs? Is it always a HP? Do they like to see lot of usage?

FWIW, i started with a 500 dollar cl (instant approval) on my diamond preferred. i did the cli online and was denied within half an hour. to this day i dont know if a second hard pull was done.
i called the EO and asked for a reconsideration and manual review. placed on hold for maybe two minutes and was instantly approved for a CLI up to 3k. no income questions, no fuss, no muss.
I would call the EO and ask for a recon on the CL.
Hi Shock_,
Your experience is helpful. Did you wait until you get the card or called right away for CL recon?
Well, at least you're in...better late than never! Granted not the CL you expected but a foot in the door. Citi tends to HP most of the time for CLI requests unless you have a pre-qualified CLI (via SP) or you receive an auto-CLI based on the account's history including any SP/AR information and whatnot.
Hi Finstar,
Now I am confused, if it's going to be a HP I would just use the card well for 3-4 months and then ask for a SP CLI.?
Btw you are right, at least I stepped in the door and didnt waste 2 HPs
Congratulations!
Thanks LadyRover :-)
My experience with Citi has been to ask for a CLI every six months and it's always been a sp and never been declined. I always do it over the phone and not the luv button.

With Citi, you can request a CLI at any point, but the younger the account is (< 6 months) then there's a good chance it will be HP. You can definitely contact them around the 4-month mark, but as they review the CLI request if there's any mention of HP, then just wait until after 6 months. You can keep trying until one becomes available if you're trying to minimize the # of HPs on your file.
