Credit apping

Hey I notice its quite a few of us that every now and then go into an app frenzy LOL

Whats your method--is it best to do them all in one day---and then just sit back and wait for the big hit from inquiries to bounce back once accounts and credit lines are reported

Or do you have a certain number that you are willing to do within a certain time frame (if so whats your time frame and how many)

I noticed I have inquired for something over the past few months 1 or 2 times a month since July--(not just CC) but this has been a rebuilding process for me I have never been extended credit and now I have the credit scores to jump on board.... so to speak--and not to mention when I joined this sight although I have been becoming credit smart its also kinda addictive to try some places people highly recommend b./c w/o this site you wouldnt think you qualified--THANKS TO MY FICO FORUMS!!!

However I noticed usually when I take a hit one month I bounce back the next--not many inquires have come off my report in the past year--but however a hand ful comes off in January and February due to Mortgage shopping and then again in Summer due to Car shopping--so I figured within those 2 periods I would recover from all the inquiry hits--I am just focusing on maintaining them limits right now---

Re: Credit apping

Okay do you need more credit or are you just trying to get your uti down?  If the later, don't app anything just pay it down as long as it takes.  I only say this because this is a quick way to get into trouble. A lot of people find themselves app'ing to bring down uti and then charging more.

I'm also going to say this... creditors are getting VERRRY funny about new apps and Amex isn't the only one known to take AA nowadays.

Re: Credit apping

Its really been a little bit of both however I have been maintaining low balances if any at all--yes I have several new cards but thats b/c I have newver been offered any of the credit that I am not receiving in the past---

I have HSBC since 2005 400 limit just recently got 200 CLI (dont want the card but keep for history)
I have Cap1 Visa 1000 limit (have had card since 2004) another kept for history
(for several years never got another card offer---until this year....

Now got WAMU VISA 2000 limit 07/2007
JUNIPER M/C 1750 limit 08/0207
WAMU M/C 2000 limit 11/2007
WALMART 600  limit 11/2007
MACYS 600 limit 11/2007

so far that is it for me --got a preapproval submitted for Shell (gas card) not sure of limit yet and also got one for JCP that I can submit up until the end of DEC--I was going to do those 2 aqnd be done with it for at least 6 mos to a year I did want HOOTERS but if its not to my advantage I will leave it alone--any opinion on that Brammy or anyone else...what do you think I should do---

Re: Credit apping

Let it rest..... trust me.... the more you app the less likely it is that your current issuers will feel comfortable givin you good CLIs. Those WaMus will probably pay off.  I know I have the Visa that I love. Won't bite on the MC.  Need to get rid of some these I have already.

Does tha HSBC have an AF  Cut it up!  the account will remain on file for ten years so it won't kill you to lose it.  Now I do keep a low limit card in my wallet just to keep me honest.  The only card I carry because I know my weakness and I love to shop.  The rest stay home in my portfolio.  Cuts down on the number of comps and game consoles in the house.

Re: Credit apping

I agree with you however thats why I do not charge much and most cards I have I was preapproved for them and realy besides WAMU and JUNIPER I have only added 2 store cards and 1 gas card to the mix--now I can relax---So right now I have 5 credit cards 2 store cards and 1 gas card-as for HBSC and Cap1 they are my longest cards and they really can go (lowest limits besides store card limits) especially since I have been offered better cards--I had 2 CAP1 cards but it was only 300 limit (paid it off) and closed it ---it was the mastercard---I really want to do the same with HSBC but was wondering if my age of accounts would be affected i have had it since 2005--was wondering if I should just keep it till the end of 2008 LOL if that long unless they make an amazing offer during the year --which I doubt--I just signed up for my credit reporting from mycreditkeeper to be billed to that account--so thats the only transaction they will see monthly LOL--I am done with them---then again yes I agree I think they are getting cancelled really soon--THEY SUCK!!!!!!

Re: Credit apping

The credit crd really does stop adding points after the two year point.  If you close it now it will remain on file til 2017 at the ealiest, possibly longer.

Re: Credit apping

Oh ok so after a card has aged 2 years you are really not getting any more points for the card--besides the fact of the balance affecting your FICO and if ever late--so really any card over 2 years can be closed and will not affect your score (well besides the fact the UTI will decrease right) But since I have obtained so much other credit and higher limits than I ever have--it should cancel out and not make much more of a hit---wow I am going to go away with them then--what do you think --maybe I should call them and advise I will cancel if they dont give a significant increase and APR reduced just to see what they say and then if they give it good but if they dont --oh well cause I have intentions to close it anyways LOL
