I was denied because of too many inquiries. Should I recon? Does Citi ever overturn their initial decision?
How many do you have? And are any from auto/mortage shopping? If so, you have a shot. If not, the decision will be upheld and no one can overturn it.
You were already denied, so you have nothing to lose by calling recon.
i am not sure if citi does recons i have read they will not
i have reconned with everyone. chase, citi, bofa, amex, discover, cap 1, hsbc and more. the only 2 companies that i have failed every time are citi and cap 1. everyone has their "white whale". for me, its citi. i've got a chase palladium witn 15k, a csp with 12k, an amex blue with 15k, even a cap 1 with 7k. my citi aa rewards silver card is $750. wth? for others, citi is easy, and chase is hard.
my advice is to find out exactly WHY they declined you. is it only the inq reason? then have a counter argument ready before calling them for the recon.
good luck, and keep us posted
It's not a matter of finding or buttering up the right rep, it's a limitation imposed on them. I have never read a single successful Citi recon other than a decline for too many INQ due to auto/mortage shopping. Even supervisors and managers are bound to uphold the systematic decision. The only appeals process is to fax or mail in a copy of your recent credit report that reflects any changes. It never hurts to try a recon and anything is possible, but Citi seems to strictly enforce the system decisioning process.
yeah they are very strict on inquiries. if you have more than 2 in the last 6 mos its gonna take a miracle. let us know what happens
Unless it's mortgage related (even then it's an uphill battle), Citi credit analysts cannot manually overturn an automated rejection.
Of all the credit card companies out there, Citi is the most rigid when it comes to recon since automated decisions cannot be superceded by anyone. Maybe, except for Vikrim Pandit, and even then it would require a board meeting.

Not true. I was denied for the Forward card (due to inquiries) a while back. I got nowhere with the drones on the customer service line, but I called their executive offices and the guy said he would take another look at my application...called back a few days later with an approved $2k CL.
It can be done, but it takes some dedication.
