No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Just curious if each credit card company has its max credit exposure set at certain amount or percentage of stated income.
I tried to google and search this forum but not much information was covered. I know it probably varies with each person.
I am just curious to see if there's any common theme.
Please share here if you feel that it's hard to get credit after certain exposure
I will collect data points and then update this post!
From data points:
Amex: will go over 100%
CapOne: 50%
Chase: over 100% possible
Citi: 50%
My current CL/stated income (fico is around 750):
Amex - 75% on credit cards besides 2 charge cards, not FR yet...
Barclays - 40%
BOA
CapOne - 12%
Chase - 45%
Citi - 35% - being told that they cannot grant more on my third card
Discover - 12%
Wells fargo - 10%
US bank - 12%
The banks that you can still get a human that can make decisions are going to vary much more. (if you push and ask!)
I've seen posters here reporting $24K income and getting $10-15K CapOne Venture cards, so some are willing to go quite high relative to your income, maybe even matching it.
Amex will go over 100%
American Express and Chase have each given me a little more than my income in credit lines. Citi has only given me around half of my income. If you have good credit it's usually not hard to get three or four times your reported income in credit card limits if you add up the limits of all cards across all banks.
I've also experienced the 35% cap with Citi.
Already having 2 personal cards with Citi, I was approved for a biz card with an uneven limit. The combined CL across all 3 was exactly 35% of my income.

I wonder if this is true exposure limit or maybe they said that to anyone having more than 2 cards.

Wow, I feel left out.
