I also have a paid after collections with this company, reporting on all three CRs and I am going to try a GW to AT&T, as they are trying to get new business in my area currently.  Anyone ever tried to go directly to the original creditor?

YES! You should try if the CA is unwilling to work with you. Just be prepared for the OC to push you away.
