Does adding an AU affect that AU from applying for the same card within that window period (whatever the credit card company or issuer has set)?

If the computer matches the personal data, ie ss numbers or other duplicate information, it may be flagged. The AU Could now have two accounts with the same issuer. The situation is that the second card would probably have a greatly reduced credit limit if it is approved. (edited for spelling)

that is also what i suspected. i guess the work-around is to get "the person that would have been the AU" to apply first for her own card
