Hi all,
I have some lates on my CR almost 4 years old.
Long story short, paid off the balance, requested for ccount to be closed(at store register), it kept going b/c of $2 of finance charce being added to the account. Only found out when Macy's collection dept called me. Ny the I had 120 late(150 per EX).
Reading about it on this forum, I sent a goodwill letter to Macy's. here it is:
To Whom It May Concern:
I’ve had my Macy’s Credit card from May of 2005 until November of 2009. Today, I’m writing to request a goodwill adjustment to my credit files.
For the entire time I had the Macy’s credit card, I made sure to always be in good standing in respect to using and paying the balance on the account. When I decided to close the account, I paid the remaining balance in store and I told the person at the counter I wanted to close the account. However, I was not aware that a $2 finance charge would be added to the following month’s statement. Not being aware of this, and not receiving any paper statements, I only found out of being 60, 90 and then 120 days late when I received a call from your collection department. The total balance that I owed at that time was $14, all interest that was added during those months. I promptly paid it and made sure all balances were settled. I did not have any intention of not paying the due balances while being an account holder with Macy’s.
I’m preparing to shop for a mortgage and was told those late payments will keep me from getting the best interest rate. I’m requesting a goodwill adjustment since the payments do not reflect my current payment status. Thank you for your time reading this letter and the consideration you’ve given my situation.
I didn't have any hopes about it, but did it anyway. Well, today I got a SW alert that my score jumed 39 points on EQ. Pulled all reports and indeed, EQ+39, TU+35 but EX is the same.
Now what makes me wonder is that the alert details say "consumer disputes this account information". I understand disputes are not good to have on CR(per morgage broker I talked to this week, before this showed up).
What am I to make of this? Happy about the score jump(735 to 774 on EQ- mid score) but not sure if permament or until they(Macy's reviews the situation). I did not dispute the lates as being inaccurate, I only asked for a "goodwill removal"....
Did you send this letter to the credit bureaus or to Macy's. Good Will letters should be sent to the creditor not the CB. If you sent this to the CB that is why it would be showing as a disbute.
They took your GW as a dispute and told the CRAs. Now that the account is in dispute certain aspects of it are removed from scoring. That is probably where the score jump came from. Whether it stays like that depends on the outcome of the dispute.
Yes, the comment will need to be removed if you are applying for a mortage.

That was my concern... any advice on what next? get in touch with them? wait for it to close? how long?
Since it was a GW and not a dispute I would contact the creditor and ask them to have the dispute comment removed. Point out you never mentioned the word dispute.
Thank you for your qiuck replies. Now to look for a Macy's credit Dept Number to call tomorrow....
