Question about removing closed collection accounts

Hi. My name is Don, and I'm working towards rebuilding credit from the young and dumb age days. I currently have a score of 476.

I have collected quite a few accounts that ended up closed, sent to collections, and then even they closed it.

At this point in time, I've ordered a brand new Secured credit card, and have plans to use it 1-2 times a month, and pay 95% of the total balance each month.

I'm wondering if I can call the collection agencies and try to make agreements to pay off some of the closed accounts they're no longer collecting on, in exchange from removing them from my credit report.

Can I do ^^^ or does that generally only happen with accounts that are still open and negative? These are all definitely closed and no longer collecting.

EDIT:

So, this may be super unorthodox, or just plain not allowed (sorry!)

If I link screen shots of my credit report from Experian, could I get some detailed help on what you guys would do with each account, and in a rough order?

Welcome to My Fico Smiley Happy

For all of the CA accounts that are past your states SOL I would first send them a DV and of it sticks to your CR then I would send a PFD. On ones that are still inside states SOL you need to be careful about contacting them unless you can PIF as they can still use the courts to get a successful judgment, these I would approach with just a PFD offer.

Re: Question about removing closed collection accounts

Wow, I wasn't expecting a detailed response that quickly, holy cow. Thank you! I believe most are still in the SOL as the earliest ones are 2012, and the majority are 2013. (I'm 24 and regard myself as being dumb up until this year as far as money management haha.)

Re: Question about removing closed collection accounts

You need to edit out the personal info on any postings of your reports, on what I saw you need to blank out the account numbers. You can edit your posting to remove the link if you cannot update the pic there with your personal info redacted.

Re: Question about removing closed collection accounts

If a debt collector has updated their collection to report it as closed, that is their statement that they no longer have collection authority.

Collection authority is termianted in one of three ways:

1. the debt has been satisfied;

2. if collection authroity was only assigned, the assignment was terminated, either by the owner or the debt collector; or

3.  the debt collector owned the debt, and sold it to another party

Since you know you did not pay the debt, then closed would infer either item 2 or 3.

In either case, termination of collection authority prior to payment of the debt requires, under the instructions in the CRA reporting manual, that the debt collector also delete their reported collection.

You need to determine who is the current owner of the debt, and if any debt collector currently is assigned collection authority.

As a first indication, is the OC account reporting a $0 balance?

Re: Question about removing closed collection accounts

I'm not sure how to find out if the OC is reporting a 0 balance. I haven't been in contact with any of the originals or collections companies in a long time as I used to move quite a bit and my information wasn't updated often. Now I'm stable but haven't talked with any of them in quite some time.

I'm also fairly new to looking at the credit report, so if that information is on there, I just may not know where to look.
