So I recently bought a new car. The problem is when the dealer checked my credit, they misspelled my name. So now my name appears misspelled on my credit report. It was also incorrect with the credit union and on the title, but I have since then corrected it. However, it's frustrating that someone's stupid error is now on my credit report. I don't want this coming back and biting me later. What are my options? Best way to handle this?
I know how irritating this can be because I have had the same thing. It is fairly easy to correct but you have to start off with the TL that is reporting your name with the wrong spelling. Once you correct the creditor, then it is easy. The lender has corrected your name, right?
If no one is reporting it with the wrong name (it happens) then you can contest it with the CRA and it will be removed.
If it is still being reported with the incorrect spelling by the lender, it will continue to show up on your CR.
So make sure the lender has the spelling correct before you go to have it removed with the CRA.
