Auto Loan Refi and Insurance Lein question

I got preapproved to refi my auto loan from Chase to my local CU.   They asked for a couple of things...paystub, licencse photo, and payoff letter.   They also asked for a declaration page from Progressive listing them as the leinholder...I thought that was odd to ask for before the loan closes.  I called Progressive and they also questioned it.  They said they could change it but that a copy would also go to Chase and could default my loan.

Is something like this common?  I know you need proof of insurance and all, but I didn't think you needed the new loan company listed before the loan closes.  Am I missing something?

Re: Auto Loan Refi and Insurance Lein question

Every Credit Union or Bank has different policies. I have had the lender request I provide a declaration page with them listed as the lienholder before finalizing the loan. Yes, the insurance company will notify the lienholder, but a simple call to Chase Bank explaining the situation should take care of the situation. Anyways, by the time Chase gets word and reaches out to you in regards to the insurance situation your refinance should be finalized.
