I care deeply about my FICO score and had I know this would happen I would never have "Rate shopped." I was looking for a new car to buy and wanted to get the best deal around so filled out several car applications. I was Rate shopping, at least I thought. When I checked my credit the only inquiries I saw was the ones for car shopping, but they were all listed. It is not like I was trying to buy a car for every credit hit I took plus I always read rate shopping is ok. The pathetic thing is 2 of the inquiries were for back to back days for the SAME COMPANY.
Heres the question. Is there a very specific way to "RATE SHOP" so that it truely counts as one inquiry? Why did every inquirey count if it all happened within the 2 week span. What can I do to fix this? I finally decided not to buy a car anyhow so this "RATE SHOPPING" was all for nothing, but one day I will want to. How can I in the future "RATE SHOP" and not damage my credit so devistatingly!!!! I almost cried when I saw my credit score plumeted 70 points over inquiries???? That is seriously the only bad thing i did, but I thought it wasnt bad to rate shop. It finally went back up the 70 points higher where it belongs!!! How can I avoid this in the future and still "RATE SHOP?

Per your FICO score, all inquiries relating to car or mortgage, if pulled w/in a 14 to 30 day window, depending on the CRA and FICO version used, count as one single inquiry. So, if you rate shopped at 100 different lenders, you'd only get dinged for one inquiry.
Where did you pull your scores from?
