Every few months I receive an email to apply for auto finaning through Capital One Auto Navigator. Over the two years or so I have went through the process a few times and I use it to see what interest rates they are offering for new and used vechicles and then I use that when I go to the dealer to beat.
So far I have done this twice and the last time I used it when I brought a new truck in Auguest (Cap One is 0 for 2 by the way
. I have been working with my wife to reduce her massive credit card debts and now its time for her to get her own car so I decided to apply again after the August offer expired and I was denied (joint application).
I received the denial letter today and it states that "there is a currently pending or recently processed application with Capital One" so I logged onto the Auto Navigator dashboard and there is no apps opened so I called customer service and they don't know why I received this letter but it could be that I'm reapplying too soon and that I should reapply again.
This is a soft pull so no impact to my credit card but has anyone ran into this issue or know how long I need to wait before reapplying? Good chance another bank will beat their rate but I like having firepower when going to the dealerships.
Quick update as I think the mystery is solved. I received a letter in the mail today that directly says the reason for denial is "too many new installation loans".
I assume this is because I got a new car loan back in August and I guess its a red flag for Cap One. Not sure how long I need to wait but I assume it will be months so I'll move on to another lender.
Sorry for the denial.
Quick update since the wife and I have started the car hunt again. I decided to reapply to Capital One with her as the sole applicate and it was approved ![]()
So it appears that adding me to the loan creates the denial which is amazing because my FICO8 is in the 800's and hers are in the low six hundreds. Depending on the used car she picks out and amount financed she is looking around 3.5%- 4% rate.
