I'd like to apply with Cap One Blank Check for preapproval. However I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to get a new or a used car. What if I apply for one and need to switch to another? The car would be somewhere between 2009 and 2013. I don't see any answers to that question on their website.
Also, my score is EQ 699. Been current on my mortgage for the last 4 months. Had a string of lates but modified it and all is current now. Only 2 credit cards, the mortgage, and a car loan are on my report. One CC is closed but has a $2400 balance. Other card is open and has a $1700 balance (limit is $2000). Auto loan is current and over a year old. Actually it's several years old, been with the same credit union, but it has changed hands three times so it looks like three separate loans!
My income is over 100K. Regular employment and self employment. Just not sure how to "prove" the self employment. Anyone know about the need to do that, especially with Cap One?
About my current credit union - I might app with them, but I don't really like them - they are small - and would rather find other options. I figured Cap One would be a good start.
Actually, if you apply for new and you get approved, they'll send you approval terms for both new and used cars.
it'll read something like this with mulitple options...
TRUTH-IN-LENDING DISCLOSURE FOR MODEL YEARS 2008 - 2005
CAP1 tends to pull all 3 bureaus. I'd be careful if you were concerned about inquires. I didn't have much luck with the preapproval process but I did go through Chase (longggg story). It was too difficult.
By lending standards, most lenders pull all 3 scores. And then, they tend to take the middle score. You can't escape the inquiries. You just need to pick one or two lender and stick with it.

Not true in any of the CUs I've talked to. They tell me the exact model and bureau they pull.
