Hi myFico Family,
First, thank you all for posting your experiences and advice. It has really helped me during my rebuild. I wanted to share some information with everyone. I filed BK7 2/2019, I was discharged 6/19. After BK my scores were horrible TU 485, EX 505, EQ 515. I was approved for a couple Capital One cards and a Capital One auto loan in 10/19 @ 12.99apr. Last week, I tried to refi my auto loan at Consumers Credit Union and was approved for a 5.49apr (not the best but I am happy and grateful). They pulled TU. My scores are now TU 636, EX 647, and EQ 663. I was planning to wait until next year, when some of my inquiries and other baddies dropped off. For those interested, you can go to their website and click “check your rate” it’s a soft pull and the system will tell you an estimate of what your interest rates will be… mine were pretty accurate. I was offered some of their other products, but decided to wait since I don’t want to add any new cards to the mix at this time. I really want my scores above 680 before planning to make more credit moves. I talked to my loan officer who finalize everything Friday, and she said once I’m at 680, they would offer me their top tier credit cards and loan products.
The only negative thing I could say about my experience is that it took a lot of verification to open a savings and checking account. Like all CU you need at least a member saving account to join. They are located in IL and I’m in MD so it was a ton of back and forth through their portal. Overall, I had a really good experience, great loan officer and thought I would share for others who are interested in refi their auto loans.
Congrats on your refi!!! Continued success on the rebuild!!

Congrats on your Refi!
Thanks. In a similar situation with my 10.77% loan from Cap1 as well.
Starting Score: EQ: 565 EX: 572 TU: 571@Madrid2020 I'm not sure about the docs that@Gmoney2020 had to submit, but I just refinanced this week with Consumers and this is what I had to submit (of course this could be YMMV):
~Color picture of drivers license
~Proof of auto insurance
~3 personal references
~POI (most recent paystub and final paystub of 2020)
~Copy of vehicle registration
I emailed everything to my loan officer and that was it! Very easy process, especially for being out of state. Hope this helps! ![]()
Congrats on your refi 🥳 and thank you for posting! This post encouraged me to app with Consumers for my refi! ![]()
You are correct. I just refinanced today and those were the same docs that were requested from me.
