When i bought my car last year, January 3, 2016, the car dealership pulled my credit 9 times. Is there anything that I can do?
I was told that they pulled it once.
There really isn't much you can do. Car dealers are known for doing this. They shotgun you to many lenders hoping seeing which will give them a better buy rate (and potentially) a better interest rate for you. I've been through that before and will no longer arrange financing at the dealer. I go in an make the deal...once I get the final number I secure financing with my credit union. This eliminates that shotgun approach that dealers use, and the high pressured sales tactics by the "finance manager". In all hope, if the inquiring where done in a very small window, they *should* only count as one (or so I've been told) and shouldn't causing too much damage. Obviosuly it's a YMMV type of situation.
Hard pulls for auto loans will all count as one within a time period, usually 14 days I believe. The reason is shopping around for the best rate is smart, it's not smart to just take your first approval because you're more concerned about hard pulls then getting the best rate and saving money. Same exact concept with any other kind of shopping, for example my parents recently bought a new oven. They didn't just go to one store and immediately buy the first thing they saw. They went to several stores and shopped around and compared prices to get the best deal.
And you said January 2016, it's now February 2017, even if you could dispute them, it would of had to been way sooner. Way too much time has passed. And while hard pulls don't fall off until 2 years have passed, after 12 months they don't have much effect as they did during the first few months.
You are stuck with the inquiries. No worries as the others have stated, for scoring purposes they will be grouped.
In a years time they will not be impacting your score and in two years they will be gone.
Often the lender pulls your credit to see where you sit and than based on their assessment they shotgun it to the banks that will likely get you financed. Next time, head in with you financing pre-approved or have a talk with the finance person prior to signing the paper that allows them to pull credit.
They pulled it once, sent your loan app to several lenders who in turn pulled credit (you signed giving them permission to do this). Its not uncommon nor is it a big deal in the entire picture because they are grouped together for the same purpose. Having said that this is one of the reasons that I always get preapproved for a loan through my credit union, in most cases dealers mark up the interest rate on the loans they arrange so unless you are getting a factory sponsored rate you can almost always beat it by just going through a credit union.
