My spouse and I are interested in buying a second car. I have very strong credit (~800 FICO) but we are currently resolving issues with his. Two of his credit reports are fine but we're in the process of disputing the third.
When applying for a loan, is it acceptable to ask the loan officer ahead of time which credit report is pulled for the loan? Will be able to tell us or is it just plugged into the computer?
Worst case, we may be able to purchase the car in my name only. Are there any hard and fast rules about the debt-to-income ratio used for auto loans? I've seen 36% thrown around for mortgages and I wasn't sure if this also applies to auto loans.
