I currently have a 2014 BMW 335i fully loaded and installed additional mods. I now keep wanting to sell it and get a Maserrati Ghibli or a Porsche Cayman...
How do I control myself and just purchase a honda and in 3 years when its paid no more car payments. How do I do this? It is very hard to control myself.
Help please!![]()
Well, Josh - you might try picturing what others think of you when you drive a high end car and it will stop you dead in your tracks from buying one.
I, for one, think that men that drive high end cars have issues with their manhood. I know I am not the only female that thinks that way. There are others that think the opposite but those others are usually very young and not knowledgeable in the ways of the world.
I can tell you this too: as a Realtor, I have seen countless people not be able to afford to purchase a home (any home) because of their car payment. It is a shame to see a couple come into the office and when we sit down to qualify them a huge amount of their income goes toward car payments. So much so that they can't even technically afford the rent they are paying if you had to use the same underwriting ratios that lenders use for purchases. It is a real shame when people choose their ride over a home (and they don't even know they are doing it).
If you want a car to play with and you own it cash...different story. I still think that there are other issues even if you own it cash, but toys serve a purpose when you need them.
Did you know what the most popular car (type) is driven by the weathy? (real wealth). Here, read this, you may be surprised: http://www.daveramsey.com/blog/cars-wealthy-people-drive?ictid=text2.130329.cars?atid=davesays
Wow I never expected anyone to think that way. I don't know if you had a husband with a nice car that had the issues you speak of and you divorced him which left you with so much negativity towards us.
I am a car enthusiast and I buy nice cars because I can and because it's so fun to drive them. My grandfather drove an old BMW and let me drive it when I was young. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I had so much fun. I think one day you should test drive a BMW and see how fun it is! ![]()
I understand about people buying them when they can't afford them...I can easily buy my cars but even then you said we have problems...wow.
Thank you for your personal opinion ![]()
I will most likely sell this car and buy a new one. I will keep my next car for many years to come. I just need to think of what car I should buy! The Audi s5 is also amazing! Maybe an electronic car? Who knows but I want it to last for over 10 years. I plan to maintain it myself.
My problem is that I always want a new car but my next one is final. I will maintain it well and I take excellent care of my toys so I can easily see it lasting over 10 years.
Edit: Just saw the new BMW M3 and the BMW 4 Series in their website and they look amazing. It will be a hard choice! ![]()

Well, you asked for help because you say you can't control yourself. Then when she gave you what could have been a good psychological trick to use to hold yourself back, you slammed her AND NOW YOU SAY you have no problems, buying expensive cars is just cool.
That's quite a change from your first post. If you're happy buying expensive, high status cars and you can afford them then why post that the impulse to buy them is a problem?
The evidence from your cumulative posts is that you do have a problem with compulsive spending/credit behaviors. I wish you well and hope you eventually find whatever your real comfort level is with money and credit. In the meantime, though, you should at least consider using some psychological tricks to help you modify your behavior.
I can't say whether it's a FACT that guys with expensive high status cars have issues, but I can say that many people do perceive it to be so. Regardless of the truth or non truth of that, though, it's fairly clear that you do have some pretty severe OCD about credit and spending that you need to get a handle on. Part of you seems to know that but part of you seems to reject that. First step is to acknowledge that you have a problem.

Sorry this forum got me addicted to FICO scores and rasing my credit. I wont be happy until I reach over 800. If it is 805 i would prefer 810 because its an even number. ![]()
I do have serious OCD issues, I wash my hands over 20 times a day, teeth well over 4 times a day, everything in my home has to be perfectly aligned and I use a ruler to make sure everything is aligned perfectly even on my desk. Even my lawn has to be perfect or I get anxiety.
My shirts, suits and pants can only be hanged in matching custom mahogany wooden hangers. I bought over 200 of them for future clothing items. Yes I do have obsessive compulsive disorders and maybe having a nice car is one of them ![]()
I clean my car at the lastest every other day. I ateast take off any dust, clean the tires, wheels and even my engine, the interior also has to be spotless...even the very tiny spots the size of a sand have to be removed with my vacuum. Even though my car is new it looks brand new just out of the showroom floor new at all times. I cant drive my car if its dirty.
Yeah you can say I have problems lol! ![]()
Yes extra money is always good. That $430 I pay monthly could have been used for additional savings or investment. What I am learning and the problem I see is I always want to have a new car so a car payment will always be there if I don't stop.
My plan is to keep my next car for many years. Well over 10 years is the plan. I know I can do this I just have to maintain it well and keep it in excellent conditions.
edit: what I think is that I can't get away from BMW. That memory of the first car I drove and how much fun it was caused me to buy only bmw cars. I still remember my first bmw back ins 2004.
Let me me know what you think is best:
1. Pay off my current car and keep it for many years.
2. Sell it and get a Honda Fit and keep that for many years.

I recommend neither 1 nor 2 because you aren't going to do either anyway! You don't like your current car, so even if you pay it off, you are still going to trade it in. The day you buy a Honda Fit, you will drive it to the Audi dealership and buy the S5. Personally, I could never go backwards in terms of ride quality neither. For example, I know my next car will be either similar or better as long as financially it makes sense which leads me to my next point.
It honestly doesn't sound like you are going to stop until you can no longer financially afford to keep trading vehicles. Keep in mind, every time you trade a vehicle, you are losing money - and a lot of it due to depeciation. If I were you, I would lease your next car. It sort of forces you to keep it for the terms of the lease, but also gives you that new car every few years.

Sorry, but I won't be able to help. I'm addicted to cars too. Started with a Mustang GT, then traded it in a year later for a SVT Cobra, then sold it three years later and got a C5, sold that three years ago and am looking for an E63. My thinking is if you can afford it and are doing it for personal enjoyment, go for it. But I also do recommend a Honda...have an Accord as my daily driver and you will not find a more reliable car than it, but it is terribly boring driving it.

I also think my addiction is too strong. I love cars so much.
I was also thinking about the Mustang Shelby GT500 but I cant drive manual so I cant get one. Maybe the 2015 or 2016 Shelby GT500 will have a sport auto availiable?
I am still trying to think of what i should do.
Edit: The Mercedes Benz E63 AMG is amazing!
