Just logged in to post this one question on the forum- how much can I borrow on an auto loan/lease?
Everyone has their vices, cars are mine and really the only thing I spent money on growing up. My question is now that I have a house and a decent paying job, would I be approved for some of the higher end sports cars/leases that are out there? Open to a down payment curious to what % would be best or helpful
fico auto 8 : 700-710
Current salary is ~110k
mortage 1400/month
Will be looking to trade in current vehicle(about 6k in + equity)
no other obligations besides 2k in credit card debt
It depends on a lot of things but for higher loans I am assuming you mean 80+k?! You will want to have up to 43-45% max DTI with 20% down for 48 months - 10% of income as max payment. Ideally you would like to be at 20% DTI buttttttt lol. Some CU will go higher on DTI but if you are wanting a lot higher especially for a Classic (not NEW vehicle) then your best bet may be a Lending online company since some of the CU rates and Bank Rates for that high of an amount can still be higher. ^^

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I'm missing some details, looking anywhere from 45-80k. Lower end of the price range are some depreciated 911s, upper end would be BMW M cars and possible cpo Porsche's. I've never had an auto loan over 25k I'm not sure how the higher approvals work
Oh so that's not as high as I was thinking you would be asking so in that scenario you would likely want to see what you can do NEW and what Discounts/Incentives the dealership itself is offering sometimes you can hit a 0% offer and if you can that is the BEST route to go for that
If you can stick to the original data to get something 80k and under that would of course work in your favor but what you really want to look into is what will save you the most in the long run. PreOwned vehicles typically don't come with lower apr and likely will ask for a higher DP (not always the case just saying if you are looking at a 60k preowned that is still a higher price so some places will want to add higher apr on something like that. Some places don't offer higher for Preowned vehicles (they have to meet certain criteria) but I think most importantly you should weigh your options and narrow down the EXACT car/vehicle you want first and do a bit of stalking ![]()

I don't think you'll have a problem with $50k-60K, but $80k might be pushing it. Loan terms might not be as favorable for used models, CPO or otherwise.
We test drove the Maserati Ghibli, BMW M4, Mercedes C43 (no C63 in stock at the time), Audi RS4 and several other high performance vehicles last summer and nothing put a smile on our faces like the Tesla Model 3.

You could buy any car you wanted, but the loan terms are what you have to scrutinize. If you put down at least 15% in addition to your trade-in, that will help a lot.
