Inquiry grouping

I'm looking to lease a car through either chrysler capital or ally soon but I have a thin credit history and may not be approved. In this case I,ll pry opt for buying used which would result in more hard pulls. I've heard inquiries for auto loans get grouped together and counted as 1 within a certain time frame and I was wondering how accurate that was?

Re: Inquiry grouping

Um... technically, yes, that's true in theory.

In practice? Well... it depends on how the inquiries are coded (Auto vs Bank/Generic/etc), and how well the CRA/FICO heuristics work.

The time frame varies depending on the scoring model, from a low of 14 days to a high of 45 days.

Also, remember they will all still appear on your reports - it's just that they (may) count as one for scoring purposes.
