I searched but came up empty. What lenders generally approve loans of $50K and over?
I've read here that Penfed does it without making a big deal out of it.
Alliant and DCU also came up but I believe a DCU rep told me their max is $50,000.
Are there any specific lenders known to be more lenient or more strict?
Did they ask for any additional information?
Anybody have experience with other CUs and large auto loans?
I am aware that it depends on many variables. I was simply trying to figure out which credit unions seem to be "top lenders" in large auto loans. Was shocked that I was not able to find any previous threads on this.
A lot of "luxury" car manufacturers do their own financing.
You won't find much data points in what you asking. If you look into the Auto Loan Approval thread with 390+ pages of data points pinned to the top you, will find there isn't a "top lender" for auto loans 50k and up.
This is not my personal experience, but from what I read on these threads that most people favor their local CU or PENFED, NFCU, etc.. because they give lower rates compared to the dealership. However, there was a thread not too long ago with a guy trying to get a 140k loan for his Tesla. He was able to get approved and quoted at 4 or 5 different CU for that amount. If your profile supports the loan amount then it shouldn't be a problem.
As a former F&I guy, with the right income and score you'll have no problem getting a loan for $50+. Nowadays a mid level Chevy Impala will set you back that much and that car isn't anywhere close to what I'd call luxury.
Check with your local credit union. Now that I sit on the other side of the desk, I'd suggest you only take lending from the dealer if you can get 0% APR from the captive lender (i.e. Ally, Ford Motor, Honda, etc) as long as the terms work within what you're confortable with.
RBFCU will approve to at least 70k.
Thanks to all. I guess I should have been more specific. I really meant top credit union lenders. I'm an over-researcher basically just looking to make sure I have looked into all resources avail to me when it comes to credit unions and financing. Consumers CU, Bethpage FCU and American Airlines Credit Union also offer up to 100K and have low rates if anyone else is researching. As far as for used auto loans, Penfed's rates aren't as good as alot of the others.
