I just checked my credit report from both TU and EQ and realized that my car loan (financed by CARMAX) wasn't reported to TU. I've been paying payments on it for 3 years so far, and currently paying payments with a year and a half left--19k is left on the car. Interestingly enough, my credit score for TU is 699 and my score for EQ is 701.
Should I contact CARMAX and inform them about the situation? Or should I contact TU? Is this an issue I should be concerned about? Any help would be great, thanks!
not all lenders report to all CRA's. You might give Carmax a call to verify. TU is just the middle guy, told what to report by the lender, so I don't see much success with calling TU, they can't report the info if they don't get it from the lender directly.
All I can say is I want my car loan to report to all three CRA's for the positive history. I understand from talking to many finance companies, they use TU alot in my parts (PA).
To add to what daisyduke already said, lenders are under no specific obligation to report to all 3 credit bureaus if they don't routinely do so. So, there's no way to compel Carmax to report your account to TU.
Many lenders report to all 3 CRAs, but some may report to just two, or one, or even none at all.
ETA: well, I just did a web search for "to which credit reporting agencies does Carmax report?" and found this, directly on the Carmax website:
"To which credit bureaus does CarMax Auto Finance report account information?
CarMax Auto Finance reports to the three national consumer reporting agencies, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion."
http://www.carmax.com/enus/carmax-auto-finance/credit-reporting-id-theft-faq.html
So, it sounds like there's a reporting error on the part of Carmax. There's a customer service address on this website to which you can send an inquiry/request to report. Good luck.
Thanks guys for the info. I called the Carmax financing dept. and had told them about TU not showing my loan. The lady said that it was one of either two things (a) The Carmax in my state only reports to EQ or (b) it was a mistake on behalf of the financing dept. She said Carmax will send a letter updating all the bureaus about the loan, and that I would receive a copy of the letter being sent out. She also added that rarely does the fin dept receive calls about positive things about a loan, rather they're bombarded with negative. Thanks guys for the help.
Interesting...I purchased a car from Carmax back in July (the car I was driving was totaled). The account, however, has not yet reported on my EX report (it is showing up on EQ & TU, though).
Considering that I'm in the middle of buying a home, I'm not going to pursue it since EX is my mid-score now.
Thanks for the info!
