NFCU - Down payment and pre-approval

When doin pre approval for navy fed auto, do you have to have the amount of your listed down payment on your app in your nfcu account? Also, if approved, is it taken directly out of your checking account or do you pay it directly to the dealer like most lenders?

With regards to if approved they send you check you endorse it and give it to dealership and they endorse it and deposit it.  Regarding your other questions i am not sure, just was calling about a refi on a car i got this weekend and used MBFS but there rates were awful as best rate was 6.79 for 60 months with > 800 fico.  So used them temporarily so car didnt go poof and called up NFCU about process of how to pay off loan and above is what they stated, so would be same except I ask for 15 day payoff quote to ensure I have enough money is only difference.
