NFCU auto loan process

Hello Everyone,

I joined navy back in November 2014. At that time I had a pre-selected offer for their cash Rewards card and a auto loan. I took the cash rewards and was approved! We need a new vechile and the first place I want to apply is Navy! We don't have a vechile picked out yet and this is my first time buying a vechile ever (last car was paid off and given to me by my parents)

Here is my question, I know you can go online and apply. I also know sometimes they ask for documents to prove income, etc (Thats not a problem) but after you get the approval they send the check and papers to you By Fedex (I know another option is picking it up at a branch) but what's the next step. Can we go to any dealer with the NFCU check? And when we go to a dealer what paperwork/documents do we need to bring with us besides the check and documents to NFCU?

I just want to have it all ready so this process can be as quick and easy as possible. Do we have to go to certain dealerships and Do I need to brings my pay stubs, W2s, or tax returns to the dealership with me with the NFCU check? Or any other documents? Or do I just need to bring the paperwork/check from NFCU. Once I take the NFCU check to the dealership and pick out a car can we take it home asap? if I'm approved for NFCU and go to the dealership with my approval and check will the dealership pull my credit again?

This is my first time buying a car and I just feel clueless.thank you everyone in advance

Re: NFCU auto loan process

We did our loan through NFCU last summer.

We asked for a certain amount without having the car negotiated yet. We basically stated our max and then we were approved for it at the lowest possible rate they advertised at the time.

We went to the dealership and drove the car. We didn't talk numbers, we wanted to sleep on it. The next day the check came in by Fedex and we went to negotiate the car. We took the check and car documents...that's it, the dealership doesn't need any paystubs, etc because we had our financing in place. We told them up front that we had gone through NFCU, they asked what rate we got then said "that's awesome. We can't beat that" so then we negotiated the deal and went through that process. Out of there in about an hour and a half because they had to clean the car up.

Best car deal we have ever done. It was a CPO Lexus.

Awesome! Congrats and thanks so much!! I'm just so nervous because I have never bought a car before ever! So I guess no matter what I'm going to be nervous but your smooth experience makes me feel so much better! Thank you so much

Are you able to go to any dealership or only ones that participate with NFCU auto program. Thanks so much again

Re: NFCU auto loan process

You should be able to go to any dealership. You will basically be taking a blank check in with you!

It was seriously the smoothest transaction ever. No haggling back and forth with their financing people and our credit getting dingged a bunch of times.
