I am trying to get some ideas on auto loans that may qualify me with scores around 600 fico. Any ideas?
Capital one was a no go...
What was capital one's reasoning for the denial? Have you tried your bank or local credit union. If that doesn't work you can always try credit acceptance. Your interest rate won't be great, but you can always refinance.
In my first real car purchase my score was about 615 and I was able to get financing through US Bank and it was with 18.5 interest rate even with $5k down but that was before I really learned about car buying but I said all that to say that if you have enough of a downpayment you should be able to find a lender.
There are of course lots of facors in lending so the score alone doesnt tell the whole story but my guess is that you would have a decent chance with Roadloans (Santander) the interest will be high but you can likely refinance with a credit union within 6 months to a year at a much better rate. I would definitely begin a relationship with a credit union and see if you can get financed with them right off the bat.

I would also be interested in Cap One's reason for declining your app? I was aproved by Cap One with a 607 FICO though they gave me a 12% APR (but I'm guessing that Cap One actually gave me 9% APR and the delaership tacked on 3% to my APR as profit)
Cap1 one denied me recently after BK7 2 years ago, all it said was "too many inquires", at 11-16 right now, not sure how long they will be there..
INQ's about one year from time of hard pull.
Captives are less concerned about INQ's.
I was denied by Capital One for too many inquiries related originally purchasing my Hyundai. But I've been looking at trade-in so I've added a few more. When my scores had updated from paying my cards down to 28%, I should have applied to Capital One first thing.
I didn't because I was lured into using Ford Credit rebates. I am upside-down, so every penny is needed; especially when dealers are playing a game between what they believe your trade-in value is and the price of the car.
But hindsight being what is it, if I had appiled to Cap One firstly I should have been approved. Another reason is I thought I would be limited to how much I could borrow and be related to APR, which has been the approval trend lately.
