New financed car... inspection decal question

Good Day,
Last night I purchased a new car and drove it home. Earlier today I realized there is no inspection sticker/decal in the window as required in New Jersey. My question is does the temporary tag also act as the temporary inspection sticker? Anyone from New Jersey and familiar with this process. I believe my other car (2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport) came with the inspection sticker.

Unfortunately the dealership is not open today so I have to wait to call tomorrow but really concerned. My husband seems to think I should be okay but I’m not so sure. I have to go to work tomorrow and do not want to be pulled over and issued ticket because of this. I do have paper guaranteeing the car will pass inspection but no sticker. In NJ you cannot take car through inspection with temp tags and/or registration.

Anyone?? Thanks

Sounds like an oversight, just make a stink tomorrow and insure they throw in something extra for their forgetfulness

Re: New financed car... inspection decal question

Will do. I plan to call them soon as they open tomorrow. Been researching online and it appears the dealerships no longer issue inspection stickers but guarantee passing of the inspection. Haven’t been able to confirm this in NJ DMV though.

How can this be?! This means a lot of people that buy cars are immediately in violation the minute they drive off the lot. Nice way for the state to make $

Anywhoo... thanks for the response!

Re: New financed car... inspection decal question

If it's anything like the state I live in, you may have a 30 day grace period to get your vehicle inspected/registered. If you get pulled over, you should be able to show the officer a bill of sale showing you just purchased. Just an assumption, but if this is how all dealership's do it in NJ then I would assume it follows the laws and regulation's.

Confirmed there’s a 30 day grace period. Once tags and registration comes in I can will have car inspected.

Thanks for the response
