Not enough credit.. Need suggestions

I've been spending the last year fixing my credit to buy a car. Today I found one I was interested in and rolled the dice. My credit score was good, my income was good. Turns out the problem is I don't have enough credit!

I was looking at an Expedition. Financed amount came to $22,000. They said because I had no credit history ( I only have 2 cc's and they have smaller limits). I would need to get a co signer or put 4k down. They were willing to finance 18k.

Any way I try different finance avenue to get financing myself? I hate to ask family and don't have the 4 k for a downpayment

Go to a different dealership or a Credit Union.
