One can include a spouse's income without having him/her on the loan application? Huh?

Another post I saw on this forum really shocked me....is this even legal??

"If you are married you can use your combined incomes on the loan app and only list you as the signer. That is my recommendation, especially since she has recent neg baddies reporting"

Has anyone here ever done this before?  Wouldn't they ask for proof of income? This has disaster written all over it...

Usually they are asking for household income when applying for credit so you could, however for car I think they want yours only but not positive.  Worse case they ask for proof and then don't except the addition income.  You could ask them when you are applying if they want just yours or household

Yes, it's doable. My brother and sister in law have done this twice in the past few years on auto loans. Basically one person submits the application, the other includes their salary in the "additional income" field when filling out the loan.

You can usually use the income as household income for the purpose of showing ability to pay debt and expenses in the household.

If you have a housing payment of $2000 which you are only responsible for 50% of then the additional income can show where the ability to repay comes from.
