Question about Inquiries

I filled out a credit app with a dealership after explaining to them my credit situation & told them I was very nervous of hard inquiries on my credit report. They told me they would only run it through one bank which they came back with an approval with. I declined the approval due to the high APR. I checked my credit this morning & there are 4 hard inquiries reported now from them when I only agreed to have my app sent to one bank. Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks!

Re: Question about Inquiries

Those hard inquiries will all count as 1 inquiry provided they were all initiated for an auto loan. You have 3 days to continue to app for auto loans and they will all count as 1 inq.

Thanks for your response!

They are being reported as 4 separate hard inquiries not just one. Does that make a difference?

Re: Question about Inquiries

they will always be reported and show up individually.

If they are tagged correctly as an automobile inquiry, then the scoring models will lump them together as one, even though you may show multiples.

Re: Question about Inquiries

Not sure if that particular coding will make a difference. It might, others may chime in. Even if it does end up being counted as 4 sep. inqs, it would probably be easy to explain if you had a manual review for credit later. You said you can see how theyr coded so far, so have you noticed a drastic change in your credit score? I understand why you are concerned but not much that can be done about it now. Once you give them permission to run credit once, they can run as many times as they want. Doesn't matter that you asked them not to do so. I for one, avoided dealer financing-- went in with CU financing in place and did not allow dealer to try and beat it. Might have cost myself the chance to lower payment by 10-15 bucks a month---maybe. The risk of numerous pulls and having them coded correctly just wasn't worth it to me.  For others, getting the absolute rock bottom rate is top priority.

Hopefully, all four of your inqs will count as one. But now you know--- what many dealers say and what they actually do are two different things.

Re: Question about Inquiries

Thanks!!

No, it did not make a change in my credit score but last January the same thing happened & it decreased my credit score 50 points & I am still working on getting it back up to where it was prior to that. That is why I was so determined for them to only send it to one bank. I am learning a valuable lesson here. Thanks!!

Re: Question about Inquiries

unless you are at say infiniti and you want them to run it to infiniti financial only to see if you qualify for the special APR's or leases being offered you will probably almost never get them to run it to 1 bank...

are you trying to buy new or used?

are you a member of a credit union?

I can't imagine INQ's dropping your score 50 points by themself without any new accounts or something else that happened at same time too.
