I have an account at Penfed CU, but I do have something on ChexSystems. I probably should pay it off and open an account at a local CU. But that doesn't mean I will be able to get a vehicle financed with them.
I would try PFD and get it removed otherwise Penfed could close your existing account. Or after you pay it off try sending GW letter to get it removed from your history. Your chances would be better of getting an account at a local CU but don't expect it to happen overnight. Your score would also go up a few points.
