I am doing a ReFi on a motorcycle loan. I shopped a couple credit unions and was approved. Then at the closing table we went over the info and I saw the credit score showed me very low. Being a diligent tracker I was like, wait what? It was 70+ lower than I know myFICO range was.
So I looked further and they used VantageScore! (Mine is low and I have no clue why)
Either way I was approved but I am sure my rate is higher than it should be based on this. Is this new? Why would they use vantage score? Just being cheap?
Synchrony has been using vantage 4.0 for a bit, it must work for how they choose to lend
Vantage 4.0 isn't the dumpster fire vantage 3.0 is, in my experience, score drops/decreases are reasonable and consistent
if they are using vantage 3.0, I'd love an interview because I have no idea how they underwrite with any confidence whatsoever

Which CU was this ? Agree that it would be unusual, at least I can't recall seeing any reports of auto lenders using VS.
Small credit union here. Michigan Schools and Government Credit union.
I have read quite a few posts which state that the Vantage score is substantially lower than the FICO score. I had always experienced the opposite. Have the algorithms used changed that much. In fairness, I am referencing my experience from many years ago when I first became a member (2012). Perhaps Vantage 4.0 is gaining traction? Best of luck.
