Worth Trying PenFed?

I'm looking for an auto loan around 75k and thinking about trying PenFed. Here are some DPs:

PenFed member since 4/2017. I keep virtually no money in the checking or share accounts.

Got a Promise 6/2017.

Stats:

EQ9: 802

EQ9 Auto: 795

Income: 200k+

Estimated PTI: 8-9%

Estimated DTI with new auto loan: 20%

No auto loans currently on my report, but I do have both open and closed installment loans reporting.

No negatives.

What I'm worried about is my Promise was over the limit by around $1200 for the past six months. I just paid it off before my April billing cycle, so it's reporting $0 balance now. My last quarterly update with PenFed had a score in the upper 600s, due to balances I was carrying that have since been paid in full.

Do you think my recent overlimit CC with PenFed will be the nail in the coffin for an approval?

Re: Worth Trying PenFed?

@Veritas You may run into some issues with them being as though you do have one of their products and have demonstrated an inability to be able to at least keep it under the limit for half a year.  They may not be your best avenue for a new auto loan since they have internal history with you.

However other lenders such as NFCU and DCU don't have such internal history and you may do better.  This is not to say that PenFed wouldn't still approve you I just think that if there is a hiccup, that over the limit card may be the reason.

And I have another question for you, more an inquiring mind wanting to know, but how did you keep such a high score with a card being over the limit for 6 months.  That's amazing.
