Re: decision pending...

will do. I emailed a few different places and have been speaking with someone close to my work. I plan on stopping by and seeing what they can do with my car. Ive never traded a car in, but I was told to go to KBB and see what your trade in value is and dont go lower than 1k under that. Especially when my car has no damage anywhere on it. Needs tires soon, but thats about it. their offer was insulting, so maybe I'll have better luck this time.

KBB is no longer the standard. It really depends on what you are trading in. If you are trading a V8 gas guzzling truck then good luck getting good money on it because no one wants it. If you are trading in a fuel efficient little sports car then you might get KBB value. Edmunds has more accurate trade in values IMHO

Re: decision pending...

im trading in an 18mpg city 24 mpg hwy. stinks. If no one is buying them, then why are they still making them? lol

I think its in my best interest to just keep my car and pay it off. I figured Im gonna try and spice it up, make it feel new again. Install touchscreen dvd/cd player, new audio speakers, aggressive tires, and new grille. Maybe that'll keep me into it until Its paid for. Then I can just save up.

My main goal was to get something reporting to my credit and I cant refinance if its not worth what I owe. So I guess Im just SOL on this one.

Re: decision pending...

This might not be the best financial advice but I am a car junky. If you want something new get something new.

Re: decision pending...

well right now, Im paying $300/mo payment AND averaged over $200 in repairs in the past year. So my goal was to get a new car, just have a payment and breathe a bit on the repair charges, and in the process get something with better mpg, and have something reporting to my credit. These were the pros.

The cons.... negative equity I refuse to roll 4k into a new car, also my car is paid off in 2 years, but a new car would have me paying a lot longer to keep my payment the same.

I hate car shopping. this is a miserable experience. My car is being sold for 13k all over my area, but I can only get 6k trade when I owe 10k. No thank you. haha

I would love a new chevy cruze or sonic with better mpg but I cant pay their 16k price plus 4k in negative equity. Id rather just keep mine until its paid for and I have at least a little equity haha.

I am so glad you have this wonderful attitude! There is no reason whatsoever to get caught up in the 'I want a new car to save on maintenance mentality'!  A new car is never less expensive than a used vehicle but there does come a point where a used vehicle costs more to maintain than replace. I buy only every three years but the car I'm getting rid of usually has 120k to 150k miles on it (or so) because I put on 35k miles minimum per year and I buy my vehicles when they are 1 yr old (sometimes 2 yrs old). Let the other people pay for the huge depreciation - its out of their wallet and not mine. Vehicle payments are the single biggest reason the middle class is broke. If you pay off your car and then decide to sell it you will be in much better position to buy something else. An attitude like yours is fantastic and it will keep you from going broke on payments for a new car "just because you can".

Re: decision pending...

Right, which is why I think making upgrades to my existing car will give me a new light and enjoy my current ride more. Im moving closer to work so the gas wont be an issue until I buy a house next year, but man I wanted some credit for this car hahah

Re: decision pending...

Put your car on cars.com and autotrader.com for 11K. If they are selling for 13-14K you should get that easily.

Re: decision pending...

well that would be nice, the only issue is that I live 1,000 miles away from the bank that holds the title until its paid. So unless there is someone very trusting wanting to purchase my car, Im just SOL on that option as well. Ive always sold my cars to individuals, never traded in, but this time I was forced to do so.

Thanks for the idea though!

Re: decision pending...

Call the bank and find out how to handle that. My bank when I sold car mailed the title to me.
