Does anyone know what you need to change the title? My wife took out a car loan 2 years ago with her mother, who was a co-signer, and last week she refinanced it, but now she is the only one on the loan, so we need to change the title in the DMV. The state is North Carolina.

The new lender should have had your wife sign on title paperwork. They will get the title updated since their name will be on it also.
As already stated, the lender should take care of title paperwork.
I recently refinanced with Capitol One and they had me sign a Limited Power of Attorney form so they could legally change the title
Hope this helps
