1 year out from Discharge, HELOC?

Is it possible to get a home equity loan with after bankruptcy? I was discharged in Dec 2019. If so, what are my best options?

TIA

Re: 1 year out from Discharge, HELOC?

I know this is not the answer you seek but I'm throwing it out there...

I'm not a fan of helocs so I'm suggesting you start building business credit instead as a go to source for capital.   It's like becoming your own bank.

It not hard to start a business...pick something you like or something you are good at and then market that service to other.  Go to your Secretary of State website and register your business name.  Get an EIN from the IRS website...go to the bank of your choosing and get a checking account and also apply for a business credit card at the same time.  Make sure you have built your personal credit up just in case they want to check it too.  You usually only need to do this once and after that they typically don't bother you because you will have built business credit from the card you receive.

Don't forget to file the income you make on your taxes under the new EIN you receive...depending on how you set up your new business....just don't forget to file taxes for the new business.

After a good history you will be able to get lines of credit which will be like a helic but more favorable terms....and it won't be attached to your house.
